Is your Squarespace site agent-ready? Check it free
Squarespace sites tend to lose points at the door: the platform's crawler setting that blocks known AI crawlers also blocks the assistants people send. Structured data is good for the business, thin for what it sells, and the protocol part needs Cloudflare in front of the site.
What the check usually finds on Squarespace
- Found
- The setting to block known AI crawlers, when on, turns away ChatGPT-User, Claude-User and Perplexity-User as well as the training crawlers.
- Understood
- Squarespace prints Organization or LocalBusiness and WebSite entities; Product entities on commerce pages, not the home page.
- Usable
- No poppy.json, and a redirect to another host doesn't count under the spec.
- Trusted
- Nothing to score until there is agent sign-in.
What you can do
- 1
Let assistants in through robots.txt
In Settings, check the crawler setting: if AI crawlers are blocked, the assistants are too. Squarespace doesn't let you edit robots.txt line by line. Allow ChatGPT-User, Claude-User and Perplexity-User (they fetch a page only when a person asks) and the AI search bots (OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot). Blocking training crawlers such as GPTBot or CCBot is a separate choice and costs no points.

The protocol part: a hosted Company
Squarespace can't serve the document itself and a redirect to another host doesn't count, so the route is Cloudflare in front of the site, serving it on your own domain. Agent Adapt is building a hosted Company for sites that cannot run its WordPress plugin: it publishes poppy.json, runs the sign-in and the customer API, and the document is served on the site's own domain through a small proxy (the spec stopped allowing a redirect to the provider's host on 16 October 2026). It is not yet on sale.

Publish llms.txt
A short Markdown page at /llms.txt naming the business, what it sells, its delivery and returns policies, and the pages that matter. Most platforms can serve a plain-text file at the root; where one cannot, a redirect to a page you host elsewhere works.
Common questions
›Should I block AI crawlers?
That is your choice for training crawlers. The check only scores the assistants (which fetch a page because a person asked) and the AI search bots (which let AI answers cite you). Squarespace's single toggle doesn't separate them.
›Does my Squarespace Commerce store speak UCP?
No. UCP runs on Shopify stores. A Squarespace store has neither protocol until the hosted Company covers it.
