BigCommerce
Is your BigCommerce store agent-ready? Check it free
BigCommerce stores usually score well on being found and understood, and score nothing on being usable: the Stencil storefront cannot serve a file at /.well-known/poppy.json, so the document has to come from somewhere else.
What the check usually finds on BigCommerce
- Found
- The default robots.txt allows the assistants.
- Understood
- Stencil themes print Product and Organization JSON-LD on most pages.
- Usable
- No poppy.json, and a redirect to another host doesn't count under the spec. Cloudflare in front of the store can serve the document on the store's own domain.
- Trusted
- Nothing to score until there is agent sign-in.
What you can do
- 1
Let assistants in through robots.txt
Settings → Website → Search Engine Robots lets you edit robots.txt. Allow ChatGPT-User, Claude-User and Perplexity-User (they fetch a page only when a person asks) and the AI search bots (OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot). Blocking training crawlers such as GPTBot or CCBot is a separate choice and costs no points.

The protocol part: a hosted Company
Stencil can't serve root files and a redirect to the provider's host doesn't count, so the document is served by Cloudflare (a Worker) in front of the store. Agent Adapt is building a hosted Company for sites that cannot run its WordPress plugin: it publishes poppy.json, runs the sign-in and the customer API, and the document is served on the site's own domain through a small proxy (the spec stopped allowing a redirect to the provider's host on 16 October 2026). It is not yet on sale.

Publish llms.txt
A short Markdown page at /llms.txt naming the business, what it sells, its delivery and returns policies, and the pages that matter. Most platforms can serve a plain-text file at the root; where one cannot, a redirect to a page you host elsewhere works.
Common questions
›Can I serve llms.txt from BigCommerce?
Not as a root file from Stencil. A redirect to a page you host elsewhere is the usual route; the check follows redirects.
›Will the hosted Company take orders?
No. Under the Personal Agent Protocol, checkout is a handoff: the agent sends the customer to your checkout page. The hosted Company covers discovery, sign-in and the customer's account.
